WORK HISTORY |
↑ |
Benoit started his career at GENCOR Pty. Ltd. where he was Project Geophysicist from 1990 to 1994 busy with interpretation and QA/QC of seismic, potential fields, IP and wire line logging data for minerals exploration: gold in the Witwatersrand basin of South Africa, manganese in the Kalahari Manganese Field of South Africa, gold in the greenstone belts of West Africa (Ghana and Ivory Coast) and coal in the Witbank Coalfields of South Africa. He joined BILLITON SA Ltd as a Senior Geophysicist until 1999 having been exposed to the quantitative and qualitative interpretation of the full spectrum of geophysical data used in minerals exploration.
From 1996 to 1999 he was seconded to Les Mines Selbaie, in Quebec, Canada, as Senior Exploration Geophysicist looking after the geophysical activities of the exploration team. Such activities included surveys planning and management of the geophysical contractors used for ground acquisition (EM, IP, magnetic and gravity), borehole logging (EM) and airborne acquisition (a very large EM/magnetic survey).
On his return to South Africa, he then worked as an independent consultant for his company, BC Consulting, and thereafter as African Continent Geophysicist for consulting group GeX Geoservices.
In 2005 Benoit joined Fugro Airbrone Surveys (Pty) Ltd. South Africa as Technical Geophysicist in the Sales & Marketing Department working closely with the department team to provide technical expertise for tender processes. He was subsequently promoted Senior Technical Geophysicist Interpretation in 2006 in charge of the newly created Interpretation Department and was also responsible for the revision and execution of airborne radiometric calibration procedures. In 2007, he became Senior Technical Geophysicist in charge of the airborne scalar gravity activities of the company including setting up of standards and procedures and instruments selection.
In late 2007, Benoit co-founded EXIGE cc a consultancy business focussing on interpretation and integration of geo-data and became its Technical Director. He also took part in the development of GyroLAG airborne geophysics acquisition platform.
In December 2010, Benoit joined GEOTECH Airborne Limited as Senior Interpretation Geophysicist based in South Africa. His responsibilities included the preparation of integrated interpretation of the VTEM data (EM, magnetic & radiometric) in view to provide clients with ground follow up and/or drill targets. He also played the role of adviser on geophysical technical challenges.
In 2012, Benoit was appointed Group Geophysicist with Taurus Gold Limited. The position entailed providing technical support and advice to the executive committee. Technical data acquisition, compilation, safekeeping and distribution from diverse projects on properties owned by the company in different West African countries were main activities. Due diligence on possible target mining companies was also part of the duties as well as acting as translator between board members and senior government officials.
In mid-2013, Benoit re-entered the consultancy business as an independent expert trading as BC Consulting that was later renamed GeoProc.com. Benoit provides traditional geophysics expertise, GIS services, photogrammetry services (airborne acquisition/processing/interpretation) and big data services to geo-communities at large (mineral and energy exploration, water resources).
Benoit is also the author of numerous technical computer programs in use for processing, integrating and interpreting geo-data.
